Some Statistics on the Lewis Award 1992-2007

As of 2007 in the Diocese of Raleigh, there were twenty-three elementary and middle schools, one high school, and nine early childhood centers. Blessed Sacrament in Burlington is the western most and St. Egbert’s in Morehead City is the eastern most of the schools. Catholic Schools are located in all but one of the eight Diocesan Deaneries, and new schools are a serious need in growing numbers of areas.

Of the twenty-four schools eligible to have teachers nominated for the Lewis Award,

-71% have had a Recipient, a finalist and/or a Lifetime Achievement Award winner

-54% have had an Excellence in Teaching Award Recipient

-8% have had five Lewis Award honorees

-62.5% have had one or more Lewis Award honorees

100% of the Deaneries in the Diocese with schools have had one or more of their faculty honored by the Lewis Award.

Of the fifteen Recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award and the three Recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award,

-nine remain active teachers or principal

-five have retired

-two have moved out of state

-two have resigned
