The purpose of the Lewis Award Endowment is to insure the Award continues to honor exceptional educators; to develop new opportunities to attract and retain excellent teachers and administrators; to create ways to enrich teachers' skills; and to promote the Diocese of Raleigh School System to be a nationally recognized outstanding system.The Lewis Award receives no funding from the Diocese of Raleigh. From its beginning in 1992, the Award has been entirely supported by private donations; and the Lewis Award Endowment will assure its future. 100% of all donations to the Award Endowment will go into the Endowment's corpus. Of the annual income earned by the Endowment, a portion will be returned to the corpus for its continued growth, and the remaining income will fund that year's Lewis Award activities.
