Lewis Award Endowment Receives Bequest
The Lewis Award Endowment recently received a bequest from the late Percy Francis Twiford of Wilmington who died in December 2008. The bequest, in the amount of $14,830 is the proceeds of his Knights of Columbus life insurance policy, brings the Award Endowment Campaign to $218,000 toward its goal of at least $1,000,000.

Lesley Ferguson Retires as Principal of St. Egbert School
Lesley Ferguson, principal of St. Egbert School in Morehead City for 32 years, was honored May 27, 2009, at a Liturgy celebrating her service to the school and parish communities. Believed to be the first lay principal of a school in the Diocese of Raleigh, Mrs. Ferguson stated in her remarks that being principal of St. Egbert’s School was God’s gift to her. After the Liturgy, Mrs. Ferguson was presented gifts from the St. Egbert School community, among which were several skits and songs by the school children.

Annual Lewis Award Dinner Held
The Lewis Award Annual Dinner was held in Raleigh Saturday, May 2, 2009. Honorees at the Dinner were Mrs. Susan Goethals, the 2008-2009 Recipient of the Monsignor Gerald Lawrence Lewis Award for Excellence in Teaching, and Ms. Sarah Almon, the fourth Recipient of the Monsignor Gerald Lawrence Lewis Award for Lifetime Achievement in Catholic Education.
